Users need an easy way to connect with like-minded people while traveling

Message other people within the app that share similar interests.

Users want to connect with others during their travel adventures.

We conducted a total of 6 interviews to get a better understanding of who our users are. We made it a priority to find users who fall within the following categories:

  •  go online for travel inspiration

  • who have used travel guide websites in the past

  • Like connecting with others when traveling

Then we went on to brainstorm possible ideas for the problem by asking :

How Might We help Cleo connect with other travelers with similar interests and ease isolation tensions?

Cleo is visiting a new state and wants to connect with others on a shared interest.

We created a persona based on our research synthesis. Cleo is our primary persona and represents the single female Lonely Planet is hoping to reach and build a positive experience for.

Users can now find & message others after selecting their interests.

Before focusing on the visual design, we built out a low-fidelity prototype to see if our designs were easy to understand. Would users find it intuitive?

Would they have trouble navigating through it?

Would it solve their frustrations and pain points?

Specifically, we created a community page where users can join a community based on interest and connect with someone by messaging the person.

We brought in the visual design aspect to finish everything off and make it more appealing. Used the brand’s font type, and colors as well as incorporated images that fit well with the demographic that they’re appealing to -- younger people looking to connect with others.

—> Sending requests:  make users send a friend request before being able to chat, this will help with privacy and prevent spammers from messaging

—> Reorganize the community page: the meetup and forum buttons should be moved to the right a bit more so that there’s more white space and contrast
